Fiona was born and raised in New Zealand and at an early age moved to Sydney, Australia where she lives now. Drawing and painting from a very young age and excelling throughout her schooling she took it further applying to Parsons School of Art in New York.
She attended the Parsons School of Art (The New School) in New York City. Her studies there were interrupted by a family tragedy and her art career put on hold for a few years. In 2010 she completed two Artist Residencies in Painting and Illustration at the New York’s School of Visual Arts (SVA), thus allowing her to take a new direction in her career and developing a new body of energised work. Here is where she gained the confidence and recognition from critics and her peers to move forward with her Art career and as a result is regularly selling paintings, being recognised by Art buyers and collectors.
Fiona was chosen by Saatchiart.com as an emerging Artist and is already garnering attention for her work. Featured in SaatchiArt.com Fiona was included in this strong emerging talent of Artists in the 'One to Watch' released by Saatchi.
Fiona's paintings and illustrations hang in private collections and appear in International publications.
Fiona is both a portrait and figurative painter with a fashion feel to her paintings. She works doing commissioned work and selling through Gallery Saatchi online and her personal website. Her loves are travel, art, music, fashion, yoga and the ocean as much as possible!
As an Artist I'm fascinated by the fleetingness of youth, beauty, sexuality and the elusiveness of these particular elements, trying to capture these within my portraits and figurative work. Always curious to discover whom the subject is behind the façade, trying to get to the essence of the person. Trying to capture their sexuality, their beauty, and who they are. Evoking an element of ‘drama’ to the subject where the viewer can ‘draw their own conclusions to what this person’s ‘story’ maybe. Working mostly from photographs as reference and occasionally life. Working predominantly in watercolour on paper and for her canvas work with oil.
Fiona's work has been described as "hauntingly beautiful and that her portraits have traces of glamour and intrigue beneath their honesty. Her subjects are intensely engaging extracting and translating fragments of secrets of the soul."
