Helena Hsieh was born in Long Beach, California. Hsieh earned her BA in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles (2004), her BFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute (2008) and her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University (2012). Hsieh was chosen by SMFA to be the student speaker at the 2012 commencement. Hsieh has received a number of awards and recognition including being selected for Boston Young Contemporaries, the Montague International Travel Grant and a Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship from SMFA. Hsieh has exhibited nationally and was selected to be one of 30 artists in the “30 Under 30” Exhibition at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. She has been featured in Fresh Paint Magazine, Studio Visit Magazine, Art Business News and New American Paintings.
