Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, the source of my passion as an artist has always been the inspiration I’ve gleaned from the pop culture which crafted who I have become. I remember all those days spent watching cartoons with my siblings, reading comics with my uncles, and that unforgettable moment when my grandpa put on Tim Burton’s “Batman” film and a lifelong infatuation with superheroes was supplanted into me. From superheroes to action movies, to the hip-hop subculture which permeated my adolescence, and the art history which still fascinates me to this day, everything around me has inspired me to become the artist I have become today, a product of my own passions; my life has itself become my greatest art piece in process, as malleable still as fresh clay to the wheel. I was never the most motivated of students academically, in high school I’d reckon to say that I spent most of my time daydreaming or drawing in my notebook, sometimes I’d even skip out on classes to hang out with friends, play video games, and watch cartoons. I guess I was just never one for the hard sciences. It wasn’t until I graduated high school that I transferred to Shoreline Community College with a focus in the arts, and upon graduating with an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree I moved onto the University of Washington where I received my Bachelor’s (BA) degree majoring in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts, with a minor in Diversity. Post-graduate, I’ve decided to spend my free time simply doing what I enjoy, which is drawing and painting the things I love. I want to connect with my audience through my art in ways that are relatable, that calls back feelings of nostalgia, I want to take them back to a place where they can reminisce, to ruminate through visual associations of time, places, and people; I want my audience to be a part of a moment, to relive their memories, and I want them to think about how these seemingly simple things have become a truly unique part of who they are, who we all are as individuals. I’d love to hear how that moment has become a part of you too. -Io also check out my work on tumblr at http://iogoodnezz.tumblr.com/, and instagram which is iogoodnezz IoGoodnezz joined Society6 on January 10, 2014
