Jamie Locke Art

Works and mandala creations by Jamie Locke, carver of wood, metal, glass and stone. Jamie Locke was born in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1974. As a child growing up in a military family, she has lived in several states in the US and in Germany. Settling in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1996, Jamie is now the mother of two children and wife of Australian singer-songwriter, Martine Locke. A life long artist and crafter in many mediums, Jamie discovered a love for creating mandalas in 2007, inspired by the traditional Indian art form of mehndi. Starting with ink and paper, her unique style has since then evolved to carving intricate mandala designs onto wood, metal, glass and stone. When not creating art of her own, she travels and plays cajon/djembe and a mean shaker egg with Martine as well as co-owns The Handmade Society creating leather and copper cuffs, hand-screened t-shirts and hand-stamped jewelry. Artist Statement The nature of my work varies from time to time but currently involves carving mandala designs into most anything I can get my hands on whether it be wood, metal, glass or stone. I work in the round and freehand in 4-8 hour sessions at a time, without pre-conceived idea of outcome. For me, the process of creating a mandala is always one of inspired revelation, elemental surprise and pure bliss. Jamie Locke Art joined Society6 on April 30, 2014
