Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year in college that I was encouraged to pursue an art career. I then transferred from Boston University to Philadelphia College of Art. Prior to graduating, I was married and soon became a stay-at-home Mom. Once the children were in school, I went back to work but not in the art field – product sales, real estate sales, office management and campus ministry. Even though I created paintings and pen and ink sketches over the years, I was not able to pursue an art career until recently. At this time of my life, I have been blessed with the freedom to do artwork fulltime! During our years in Pennsylvania, I enjoyed drawing and painting historic and commercial sites as well as farm houses and barns. My husband and I moved to Franklin Tennessee in 2008. We were amazed at the beauty and history of this area. I see inspiration for art everywhere I look! I have also been inspired by our oldest son’s home in a picturesque village on a fjord in Southern Norway. I enjoy oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, as well as pen and ink drawing. With pen and ink, the contrast between black and white with gray tones is stunning to me! It’s very detailed and exacting, because once the ink goes down on the paper, it’s a done deal. There’s no erasing or painting over it! That’s part of the fun and the challenge! Painting is wonderful too because I can create an impression and mood with color, value and brush strokes! Among my commissioned commercial works are drawings of Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, PA. used in their publications, brochures and newsletters and a drawing of The Village of Laurel Run in Fayetteville, PA used in their marketing materials, cards and newsletters. I’ve also been commissioned to do personal residences in both PA and TN. My drawings and paintings are on display at the Tennessee Art League in Nashville, The Carnton Plantation in Franklin and at the Joy For All Gallery in Farsund Norway. I hope you will visit my website and that you enjoy what you see. I give all the credit and glory to God for the ability to put down on paper and canvas the beauty that I see! Let me know if I can create a custom painting or pen & ink drawing for you. Thanks for visiting! Janet L King joined Society6 on April 30, 2014
