Jemma Pope

Jemma Pope is a graphic designer and artist with a passion for all things creative. Ask Jem where she is from and you might find yourself listening to stories about New Zealand, England, Melbourne, Buderim, Ballarat or even some mysterious islands in the Caspian Sea. Ask her about her creative influences and you might need a comfortable chair. Having discovered early that she had a talent for illustration, Jemma followed her heart and trained formally in art and design. Her creative journey has seen her explore mediums from traditional canvases to ironing boards, found furniture and things. Influenced by her surrounds she has gathered valuable life experience by living the romantic lifestyle of a nomadic artist. Jemma admits that these days her influence is a little more tamed having settled into the life of single mother – however it is not in her struggles that she finds her inspiration – but in the moments of rare silence that break through the all too hectic and grey lives of the cities. Her art, even at its darkest moments, eludes to a deep positivity in the world around us. This is none more evident in her portraits, that seem to capture an essence in the eyes of the subject that is telling of the artist’s sensitivity. Jemma’s more recent work features illuminative colours and lively animals that brighten their environment. But ever since her first exhibition at The Lounge in Melbourne, which featured a varied selection of canvases, the jump from one style to a new medium has never been too long a wait for Jemma. Expressing herself through her creative play is a lifestyle, not just a wonderful talent. Her professional folio of product and company graphic design is expanding rapidly as her reputation grows. However it is in the work she does for joy that this young and bright artist shines the brightest. Jemma Pope joined Society6 on November 10, 2013
