Jodie Smith

My name is Jodie Smith. I am currently 18, studying at Hull College of Art and Design (‘Park Street’), and I am in my final year. In my first year I studied Art and Design. I enjoyed learning new processes and exploring the many different techniques. I participated in Illustrative designs, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Life Drawing, Print Making, and more within this very broad year. As the year progressed I began to feel like my work was a little to broad. I wanted to do something that actually had a purpose and a meaning. After looking at a portfolio of Textiles work things started to make a lot more sense. I realised that I wanted to specialise in my final year studying Textiles. I do not look back from this, as I feel now that Textiles is what I am suppose to do. I love illustration, and creating patterns to be transformed onto a surface, mainly by creating a Silk Screen to print onto fabric. I like to print by hand, using lots of different print methods such as Silk Screen, Open Screen, Devoré, Discharge Printing, Monoprint, Card Collograph , Lino and Dry Point printing. I enjoy working with fabric as well as paper. I am interested in working with a Digital Printer and a Laser Cutter, and trying out lots more print processes that I feel going to University will offer. I am currently applying to University at Huddersfield, Leeds College of Art (for Print Making & Surface Pattern), Norwich and Nottingham Trent. The majority of them are to study Textile Design. In the future, after University I would love to have my own business/shop, selling things that I have created, and perhaps also a Tea Shop (as people that know me, know that I am a tea fanatic, as well as a crazy cat lady). Lots of my past illustrations feature teacups, I have a small collection of them myself so I like to draw from them. As a hobby I started to make necklaces featuring real pressed flowers. These proved to be quite popular, and I was asked by a vintage boutique called ‘Poor Boy’ in Princes Quay to create a Jewellery Collection for them. This consists of Necklaces, Earrings, Hair Pins and Brooches. I also make Lockets and Key Rings. They all feature real pressed flowers in them. I enjoy making jewellery and would like to sell them at Craft Fairs and Markets, along with my Textile Products, and Illustrations. Please feel free to email me at : jodiepsmith@icloud.com if you have any questions about my work. I also take commissions :) My Facebook page is : www.facebook.com/dollypeppershop and my Blog is: www.j0diesmith.wordpress.com Jodie Smith joined Society6 on March 12, 2014
