About Judith Clay

I am a German artist and trained ceramic painter with a degree in comparative literature, working primarily in ink, pastel and colored pencil on drawing or watercolor paper, sometimes adding collage elements. Creating pictures is my life, and keeps me sane. There is nothing more rewarding for me than getting lost on the page and story of a new drawing. I like to think of my pictures as little "escapes" from reality where it's possible for fish to fly and for girls to ride on sea horses high above the city. My work has been called eccentric, whimsical, fantastical, and quirky--all of which I agree with!

My art work has been published in art magazines, school books, and as a book cover. It has also been used in an art workshop for children in Greece and the 110th birthday of the teddy bear celebration in Estonia. I have participated in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Norway, Greece, Estonia, Italy, Hungary, Spain, and the UK. My children's book, Thea's Tree (story and illustrations by yours truly, published in 2014) was selected for the White Ravens List of the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany. Starting October 2015 I will be part of a group exhibit that will travel from 2015-2018 from Estonia to Finland and Latvia, Poland and Germany, and eventually to London or Moscow. Very excited about this :-)
