I do pen drawings - just started using a wider colour palette. I'm in academia as well, interested in symbolic and folk art both of which I'm sure you can detect in the work. Two main elements of my technique: (1) PATTERNS: taken from tiles, textiles, ceilings, churches, stonework . . . anything that re-iterates. (2) MISTAKES: I try to mirror lines a lot, and then usually make mistakes, and then try to exaggerate them. This gives a somewhat 'organic' feel. Sometimes I start with a mistake: make a mark I don't like on a page and then keep adding to it until I'm happy with what I see. If there's non-abstract material, I've probably started from a photo - though I'm learning to draw things 'live'. I travel and take photos a lot so there's aesthetic influences from Asia and the Muslim world as well as Europe and North America. I also do folk music and I think it's had an influence on my visual work. Day job: social anthropologist (gives me access to lots of juicy 'folk' art). I need to get hold of my originals (many of which are in Vancouver) at which point I'll add several larger versions of what I've got up now. Feel free to contact me if you would like to buy 'originals' or are interested in commission work. @KarlSegnoe on Twitter Karl Segnoe joined Society6 on December 7, 2014
