Katerina Gyürüsi

I am based in Prague, Czech Republic. I have been interested in art and design since a young age. However, my excitement began to show whilst I was at The British School, Warsaw, studying International Baccalaureate Art. Therefore, I continued my studies in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London and I graduated with BA (Hons) Creative Advertising Strategy in London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London. Presently I have transformed my flat into a live in art studio, so I can create and paint whenever I can. I am currently exploring improving my skills in the field of vector graphics as well as painting. I am interested in the ways some people choose to differentiate themselves from others. It can be piercings, tattoos or a different clothing style. I believe I am a very open minded and an empathetic person and so I dislike criticising others just for their appearance. The times when the only tattooed people were prisoners or sailors, and the only people with piercings were punks, are long gone. We should accept that everybody has their own, unique way of thinking. Some decide to also look significantly “different” from everybody else. Some follow fashion magazines to distinguish their style, some follow only themselves. That is why I paint those who are not scared to be different. My favourite “motive” (do you mean motif; a recurring symbol?) of my art in last two years is Rick Genest aka Zombie Boy. For some, he is a freak who scares everybody around him by his appearance, for me he is rather an icon.
