I have always loved to draw and paint, but I was the eldest child in a family of 11 children so I often needed to put my art aside and help my family. When I went to junior high and high school I was ready to learn how to become a real artist, but I didn’t get the fundamental tools I needed to know how create. I felt like a bird in a cage that couldn’t give voice to my dreams. Finally, when I went to college I got the tools I needed! I graduated from BYU-Idaho with an Associate’s degree in Illustration and Graphic Design and then from BYU with a BFA in Illustration. I got married to my high school sweetheart Jeremy Meldrum and started having children while in college. Now I am the proud mother of 1 daughter and 5 sons. I put my art dreams on a shelf for 15 years so I could train my children well and take care of all their health challenges. I kept my creative self alive by writing in 20 journals, scrapbooking, and becoming the Organized Queen Bee who teaches Moms how to organize their homes and families at www.house-organization.com A personal challenge crept into my life, and I hesitantly pulled my art talent off the shelf to help me pass the time. Now I paint 15-20 hours a week! Finally, my dream to paint has taken flight! My goal is to write and illustrate children’s picture books that teach morals in a magical way and to win the Caldecott medal! Another goal is to have a Youtube channel where I teach others how to draw and paint that their imaginations may also take flight. Please check out my artwork at www.krystalmeldrum.com and let me know about your artistic journey!
