ABOUT THE ART
This is a painting I did on canvas around a year an a half ago (in late winter of 2011) for an art show here in MA. It was for abstract art, and though I personally debated if this was abstract enough, it was accepted. While I didn't win anything (there were some great pieces there), I later sold it privately. This is from a photograph I took of the piece before sending it off, and it was originally 36" x 18".
The title is a part of a line from the song "Sawdust and Diamonds" by Joanna Newsom (who's song inspired a poster on S6 as well). At the time, this was a bit unlike anything else I'd done, and everyone I knew personally seemed to really like how it came out. I used masking tape, then paint, to create the black outlines of my fox here, and did vertical lines for the background while horizontal lines for the body. I used acrylic paints, but also introduced some new colors to my palette with a metallic sparkle to them that helped to make his body shine and jump out. I keep meaning to do another like this, and already have some plans for my next canvas painting to go back to this style and subject. I hope you love it too!
