ABOUT THE ART
In Shizuoka city, on the strawberry road that follows the shore to Shimizu, is a mountain called Kunōzan, where Ieyasu, the first Tokugawa shogun, is enshrined. Leading up to (or down from, if you arrive by the ropeway) the Tōshō-gū from the strawberry road are I-don't-know-how-many steps, zig-zagging up the mountain, and decorated all the way with pot plants: bright, blooming flowers marking the passage between the sacred and the everyday; the cool, quiet hilltop, and the speeding cars and piles of concrete wave-breakers.
