ABOUT THE ART
The west facade of Byland Abbey church in North Yorkshire. In its heyday, regarded as one of the most beautiful monastic churches in Europe but on the dissolution of the monasteries in the mid 16th century, it was made unusable by agents of King Henry VIII and left to fall to ruin. Fortunately there is enough left fuel the imagination and the site is now protected.
