Saddle Mountain is a rewarding hike for those of us lucky enough to live on the Oregon coast. Uncommon prehistoric species of flowers survive at their higher elevations. From the top, one can see the Pacific Ocean westward and Astoria in a northeastern direction. Looking south, we see the mark that timber industries have made on pristine, ancient forests. It is a sad reality that our need for shelter and want for goods will not sooner come into balance with what the earth's ecosystem can reproduce within a reasonable timeline so that we can save what little is left of the forest's legacy by reducing the destruction of old growth forests. If only our land companies had the foresight to not destroy so much, we might know hundreds more hikes than we still have today. mountain, hiking, woods, forest, Oregon, wilderness, trail, view, panorama, scenic, landscape, sky, wildflowers, earth
