Breaking out of one's comfort zone can be scary but also rewarding. As a digital artist, I have little experience with traditional forms of artistic expression, so I hope you enjoy 'Free Spirit,' my first attempt at a traditional watercolor painting. The minimalist premise is simple, but I found the use of the medium surprisingly complex or, perhaps, challenging - I suppose my brain is accustomed to working with digital creation. Creating this, I developed an even stronger respect for painters - holding a brush steady for a long time, getting a perfect circle, making the colors be just so...not so easy! Make a mistake? No 'Undo' button, what do you do? And does the circle have to be perfect? Things to think about...all these things...my instincts told me, "Just go with it."
I learned that while there is, of course, much you can do digitally, there is also much that can be done traditionally that can't be done on the computer - the creation of certain motions, textures and more. A rewarding experience that, as it developed on the canvas before me, named itself: 'Free Spirit.' This print here is an unaltered scan of the original canvas painting, which I can proudly say now hangs framed in my home and serves as a reminder of this enlightening journey. :) I hope 'Free Spirit' will resonate with you. :)
