Thank you everybody, this was inspired by Martin Ramirez, an outsider artist from mexico obsessed with trains and railroads. He is one of my favorite artists of all time!
Pegeen Shean commented on January 4, 2012 6:32pm
Wonderful tribute to your favorite artist. I was just thinking that how this reminded me of Ramirez; then I saw your note. Excellent job!

Much of your art is plagiarizing the art of Martín Ramírez... I own a book with this exact image in it. Did you trace it? It was very smart of you to pick an obscure artist who spent most of his life in mental hospitals to steal from.
Nicolai Troshinsky commented on October 21, 2012 3:38pm
Dear Wayne, I did not plagiarize Martin Ramirez, who´s work I sincirely admire. You should be able to show me a single example from his work that could be considered as a copy. I made these illustrations inspired by his work because it was a book about trains, which is the main topic in Ramirez´s work. I do not hide this fact, it´s clearly stated on my website: http://www.troshinsky.com/vagoneng.html
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on October 21, 2012 4:49pm
Whatever, Nicolai... I don't see any point in scanning an image that I have of Ramirez's work that looks exactly like what you've posted... and sending it where? The copycat police? Thought that you should know that I'm most likely not the only person who knows art history, and being "inspired by" an artist in such a way usually catches up with folks that put their name on facsimiles of other's work. Peace.
Nicolai Troshinsky commented on October 21, 2012 6:14pm
Dear Wayne, plagiarism is a very serious accusation, I advice you to present evidence or refrain from doing so. I am very well aware that Ramirez is not an unknown artist. Is this the book you have? http://www.amazon.com/Martin-Ramirez-...0977802817 because I am in contact with its author, who knows my work and has shown it in several talks regarding Ramirez´s work repercusion in contemporary artists.
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on October 21, 2012 8:34pm
Dear Nicolai, do you truly want for me to embarrass you further? I have been collecting folk art for 30 years, know curators at the museum of American Folk Art and the Museum of American Art that curated a show of work including Ramirez, and have a whole library of books that feature his work, much more than just one book. I really have no desire to punish you... just tired of seeing people creating work "inspired by" other artists, and as an artist who respects other artists, I don't think copying someone's style or imagery is a way of being respectful.
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on October 21, 2012 8:51pm
This drama has concluded... I am not in the mood to spend my time and dig through dozens of books to make you look bad. I have my own business to look after and nothing to be gained by continuing to interact with you. You do whatever your morals dictate. I will refrain from this escalating this conversation further.
Nicolai Troshinsky commented on October 22, 2012 2:23am
Dear Wayne, spare yourself the excuses, we both know very well that there is no such image in Ramirez´s work.
Scott Erickson commented on December 17, 2012 9:40pm
no this is train art worthy of any little boys room!
Scott Erickson commented on December 17, 2012 9:59pm
and i'm with you Nicolai. Seems Wayne has a narrow point of view.

wow... qué desagradable ver cómo hay gente que intenta devaluar el esfuerzo de un artista con acusaciones no fundamentadas. Me encanta, Nicolai. Tienes trabajos muy buenos
