ABOUT THE ART

The unicorn of the sea!
The natural speckled pattern of the narwhal's body inspired me to play with paint spatter. ♥

Narwhal Fun Facts!
The narwhal - Monodon monoceros (meaning "one-tooth one-horn" in Greek) - is an arctic toothed whale that has a large spiraling tusk that is actually a long upper canine tooth that grows out through the front of it's snout! Narwhals can be up to 18 feet long (without the tusk) and the tusk of the male narwhal can grow over ten feet long. About 15% of female narwhals grow tusks, and these are usually a bit shorter.
The entire population of narwhals is estimated at around 75,000, the species is classified as "near threatened."
