ABOUT THE ART
The 50 Babes Project is a new series capturing beautiful babes (men & women) from each state. It is my love letter to the vintage postcards we all know and love.
Each piece portrays elements of the state and illustrates important facts or anecdotes that make that state unique.
Miss Oklahoma is represented by OK native, Lauren. Resting atop her eyes are the state flower, Indian Blanket, which symbolizes the scenic beauty and Indian heritage across the land. The state ranks 5th in the nation in cattle and calf production and is the home to many beautiful bison. In 1953 the fast food restaurant, Sonic Drive-in, which now has over 3500 locations. One of their favorite and notorious drinks, the limeade slushy, sits next to Lauren's roller-skates - another staple of the franchise. To this day, the waiters and waitresses still deliver your food car-side, on roller-skates. The Oklahoma flag depicts an Osage Shield. To me, the shields borders resemble barbed wire which I utilized in the background to mimic the circular shield on the flag. The barbed wire I've used harkens back to OK's cattle production.
