About this artwork
Description: Each square is one unit by one unit. Three points were randomly chosen on the vertical and horizontal sides of the square respectively. These points were connected to form a 4 by 4 grid of randomly sized quadrilaterals. Three of these 16 quadrilaterals were then randomly chosen and filled with red, blue, or yellow. This results in a modern homage to Mondrian created with a pseudo-random number generator.
Artist statement: My work explores the relationship between chance, randomness, probability and the natural human impulse to seek visual structure. With influences as diverse as Piet Mondrian, Vilmos Huszár, and Bart van der Leck of the Dutch neoplasticism (Nieuwe Beelding in Dutch) movement of the early 20th century and contemporary artist Damien Hirst, my goal is to explore these connections through digital art, marrying aesthetic principles with data visualizations generated using statistical computing software and pseudo-random number generation. http://statsinthewild.com/art/statement/
