For my brother's 34th year, I am making and mailing him a postcard every week. I am calling this exercise "project 52." Inspiration for the postcards in project 52 come from my daily life. Sometimes they feature studies for paintings I'm working on, sometimes they depict scenes from my kitchen or bits of poetry that I've enjoyed recently. I'll continue to make some of the postcards available here.

Last week's card included a quote from a friend on dead languages that I found rather charming, set over a background of fiddlehead ferns, one of those early wild foods whose arrival signals that the spring foraging season has truly begun. After all, what better time to muse on life, death, waiting, and rebirth, than spring?

Original is woodburned birch, with acrylic wash.
