ABOUT THE ART
For my brother's 34th year, I am making and mailing him a postcard every week. I am calling this exercise "project 52." Inspiration for the postcards in project 52 come from my daily life. Sometimes they feature studies for paintings I'm working on, sometimes they depict scenes from my kitchen or bits of poetry that I've enjoyed recently. I'll continue to make some of the postcards available here.
Last week, I intended to feature all the colorful things I'm growing in my garden this year: beans streaked with hot pink; white, green, orange, purple and red tomatoes; black hollyhocks; red lettuces; orange snapdragons; multicolored stocks; bouquet dill; pink nasturtiums; Jerusalem sage - and on and on and on. I started by creating a simple ink sketch of everything that I was going to color in ... but then I stopped and realized I liked the spareness of it all. So, postcard 31 is a blank slate, the whisper of a promise of summer - just like all those seedlings that are still coming up!
