ABOUT THE ART
For my brother's 34th year, I am making and mailing him a postcard every week. I am calling this exercise "project 52." Inspiration for the postcards in project 52 come from my daily life. Sometimes they feature studies for paintings I'm working on, sometimes they depict scenes from my kitchen or bits of poetry that I've enjoyed recently. I'll continue to make some of the postcards available here.
This week's card is an ink-and-colored-pencil rendering of some sedums, growing together in a pot on my deck. My neighbour gave me these guys a year or two ago, little slips that she'd culled from her garden. I potted them up and now they are tumbling together and over the sides of the pots. I love the angularity of the pointed tips on their leaves, the way the regular geometry of their shapes is tweaked and twisted as they pack together.
