ABOUT THE ART
for my brother's 34th year, I am making and mailing him a postcard every week. I am calling this exercise "project 52." Inspiration for the postcards in project 52 come from my daily life. Sometimes they feature studies for paintings I'm working on, sometimes they depict scenes from my kitchen or bits of poetry that I've enjoyed recently. I'll continue to make some of the postcards available here.
Last week's card included a tiny snippet from a new translation of Grimm's Fairy Tales (by Philip Pullman) that I've had on the brain, as it is the inspiration for my latest sewing project. "The moment she cut the lilies, the cottage disappeared and the twelve brothers were changed into twelve ravens that flew away over the trees with a dismal cry," it reads. Original postcard rendered in acrylic over ink on watercolor paper.
