ABOUT THE ART
Named for their pyramid shaped cell-body, pyramidal neurons are found in the brain, mainly within the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala. Pyramidal neurons have highly branched axons and dendrites, allowing them to send and receive signals to and from multiple neurons.
Pyramidal neurons in the prefrontal cortex are thought to be the basis for cognitive function and, the complexity of their connections are related to the degree of cognitive abilities of different species.
