The title “Red Carpet” as well as the slightly abstract interpretetion of paparazzi in the background refer to the idea of fame.
The main focus though, lies on the Virgin Mary, who represents the idea of fame.
On the one hand she is the sacred, the symbol in use by the Catholic Church to be in idol for believers.
On the other hand she's a woman on the Red Carpet.
She prays, yet I only show one of her hands.
The person belonging to the other, we don’t see.
We can only imagine what position this one must be in, to reach up to hers like that completing the image of prayer.
And why is she praying anyway? What is she praying? IS she praying?
'Cause her face doesn’t look it...
Or is she just so used to hiding her face in front of cameras...
