Sawdust and Diamonds

by Christopher Richards

Collect your choice of gallery quality Giclée, or fine art prints custom trimmed by hand in a variety of sizes with a white border for framing.

This poster is inspired by the song "Sawdust and Diamonds" by Joanna Newsom. The song makes reference to a church bell being dropped down it's belfry, and the title is the stuffing inside some handmade doves. The lyrics to the song are the text that appears in the twin spirals over a blue painted background, representative of the water and nautical themes of the song.

For a long time I'd been working on a few different ways of trying to typographically do a poster for her and this song, one of my all time favorites. Since it's a long song, there's a lot of text to work with. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it, and if you're not aware of the song I'm sure you can find a performance on youtube.

Just for sizing note, I designed this at 12" x 18" and the text is at just over 10 points in size, so I'm not sure how legible it will be at the 7 x 10 size.
