The Italian one-sheet for Stanley Kubrick's 1973 Academy Award winning* epic NAPOLEON.

Back Story: This was produced as background set-dressing for a film by some Portland friends of mine. The theme for all of the posters was "Could Have Existed But Totally Don't". The other posters included SURVIVING CLEVELAND (1978) which was the first film in the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK trilogy, and the CD-insert for the 1996 Nirvana album PINK CHAMPAGNE.

Napoleon was a long-stewing project from Kubrick and was intended to be his follow up to 2001: A Space Odyssey. You can find a lot of information about the project online including the full screenplay.

One thing that shaped the poster was the story about Kubrick developing an advanced camera lens to enable the film to be shot by candle light. When the project fell apart, much of the historical and technical research ended up inspiring BARRY LYNDON (1975). It seems obvious that if Napoleon had been produced then Lyndon would never have existed. As a result, this poster simply cross-faded like newspapers and photographs in the Back To The Future trilogy.

* Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Actor In A Leading Role: Jack Nicholson, Best Picture.
