My depiction of the rare and mysterious Subantarctic Type D killer whale. The type D orca is a variety of orcinus that is known through an abysmally low number of sightings worldwide, the first recorded one that I can find being in 1955. They were first dismissed as a genetic anomaly, but DNA tests have proven that the type D has been genetically isolated from other orcas for about 400,000 years. They may be named their own species one day.
