TEXTURES -- Fremont Cottonwood Barkby Ralph S. Carlson
ABOUT THE ART
When Captain (then Major , et cetera) John C. Fremont led surveying expeditions into California territory in 1846 and thereafter, he collected some botanical specimens and described certain plants and trees not previously described by western scholars. Thus, his name is part of this cottonwood tree nomenclature and shows up in the common and/or the technical name for a variety of other California plants and trees as well. Claremont, California.
