ABOUT THE ART
This Illustration is inspired by the Lunar Eclipse of June 15th, 2011. The total eclipse lasted for about 100 minutes. As the Sunlight got filtered through Earth's atmosphere, blue and green light (with shorter wavelengths) got scattered away, and only red (with longer wavelength) could reach the surface of the Moon. The result was a beautiful, glowing, deep red/orange color Moon during this event. It was very spectacular, visible only from certain parts of the Earth! People lucky enough to be there, watched it in childlike wonder.
Sometimes, even when there's no eclipse, the moon appears orange or yellow color near the horizon. Scientific reason is the same... scattering of the light through Earth's atmosphere. Spiritually though, according to Mayan Astrology, symbolic meaning of the Red Moon is Self-Remembrance and awareness of your deeper connection with The Cosmic Consciousness.
Whatever the reason or meaning behind this phenomenon, no one can stay untouched by the awe-inspiring beauty of such natural wonder!
