ABOUT THE ART
My Dad grew up and went to high school in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. It’s still where he feels at home, and his classmates through the years have kept in close touch. For their 25th high school reunion, a carpenter classmate made a red door to be given as a humorous door prize. Outhouses were something they all remember well, especially in the winter months, and every reunion the red outhouse door came back from the previous winner, to be given out again. The signing of the names was who had attended, not who used the “facility”.
At their 50th luncheon they started having reunions annually, so the door got some travel, and became an honor to win. It retired in 2013, at my Dad’s summer home in the Northwoods.
Before storing it away, photos were taken of the red outhouse door, in front of our family outhouse, that still stands, as a reminder of “tougher” years.
