ABOUT THE ART
Actor George Takei tweeted this on 3/11, shortly after the first major earthquake hit. His words struck a chord with me on a profound level. As a foreigner, I am generally considered somewhat of an outsider in Japan. However, Mr. Takei's words reminded me that regardless of where we were born or what language we speak, we are all human, and therefore we all feel pain when the people around us are suffering. The pain and compassion I feel for the victims in eastern Japan spurred me to represent visually the idea that we are all, in a way, Japanese.
