About this artwork
An oil on canvas by Vincent van Gogh painted in 1890. Vincent van Gogh is perhaps the only painter than can make a simple plant seem so vibrant and alive. This painting was painted while van Gogh was in in Arles and Saint-Rémy in southern France. The painting style is clearly impressionist but is also strongly influenced by Japanese woodcut prints that van Gogh was interested in.
