ABOUT THE ART
Japanese Koi Contemporary Modern Watercolour Painting
In Japanese symbolism the Koi represents perseverance in adversity, strength of purpose, and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. The legend is the strongest Koi swim upstream until it reaches the final waterfall, where it vaults into the mists and becomes a water dragon.
This piece is part of my series of zen watercolor paintings, the movement of Koi along the turquoise water brings about a sense of peace and serenity, almost like having your very own Koi garden to watch! They are a social, active fish, rarely keeping still and always swim in groups. They also live a lot longer than most other fish, the oldest Koi lived up to 226 years old! Little wonder that the Koi is a symbol of many good things.
