Entries Due : Lost Time Risograph Zine Collaboration

TIME IS UP to sign up but the time to create and upload work has just begun. Lets get busy and upload your work before the next deadline on January 28th. No late entries will be accepted.

 Guidelines for navigating this collaboration:

1. If you clicked the "apply" button for Lost Time, before January 22nd then you are all good to proceed to the next step.

2. This is a chance for you to interpret Lost Time how you see fit! Please create your piece and post it for sale as an Art Print at anytime, but by no later than January 28th to be considered for the zine and the collection.

3. Please use the title of your work as the title of your post AND please use the words "LOST TIME" in the description of your post (even if that is the entire description).

4. The final dimensions of the book will be 8" X 5" (with some full spreads available to accommodate larger works). Please keep these things in mind when creating your work.

You will be notified via email for inclusion in the zine, and separately via email if your piece is added to the collection.

What's a Risograph:

To oversimplify it is to call it a marriage between a screen printer and a Xerox. The process creates amazing color with amazing speed, and an end product of oil-based, semi-transparent ink on paper.

Created in Japan in the early 80's as a low cost document duplicator, its obsolescence in the business community has made it a perfect tool for artists to mass produce unique prints at high speeds and volumes at low cost. The way the colors mix together, overlap, and don't always line up correctly, adds an imperfect charm and beauty that is the Riso.

How to Prepare a Design for Risograph:

Designs should only use, or be modified to use, the set colors below. You can choose one or a mix of:

  • Black
  • Red
  • Teal
  • Neon Pink
  • Purple (mix of teal and red)
  • Bright Purple (mix of pink and teal)

Each color must be a separate layer in Grayscale for printing.

If you opt for a photograph, it will be converted into a course half tone dot during printing.

Paper color options are White, Light blue, Light Grey, Salmon, and Light Yellow. White is preferred.

Riso produces overlapping colors and colors that bleed together. Layer registration is not perfect so please prepare the artwork with some amount of overprint and bleed.

Collaboration Closed on: January 21, 2015
We're looking for contributors to participate in our next self-published, limited edition risograph zine entitled "Lost Time". Please apply if you are interested! You will be notified upon acceptance into the project.

Here's my entry.

I compared the time spent on the creative process with the time we spend having crazy dreams (with no beginning nor ending), both happening during night time. Therefore the moonlight was used to track this period, and a wizard-like being -The Moonwatch- was created to represent the whole process. He holds the "Lost Time" amulet in one hand and with the other, he controls the moon phases, projecting the light through his eyes.
It is a tale specially created for this concept indeed.
