Fieldguided Shows Us 5 Dreamy Ways to Use Wall Tapestries

Wall tapestries are the easiest way to achieve a modern bohemian look in your space. We invited Anabela Piersol of Fieldguided: maker of handmade goods, lifestyle blogger and cherry blossom enthusiast to show us all the ways she uses Society6 wall tapestries to add some whimsy to her space.

Of the wide variety of products available on Society6, none are more versatile than the wall tapestries. Available in three sizes and in any print you can imagine, these swaths of fabric can make a big impact in many different ways. Not your typical heavy, woven tapestries, their lightweight, silky material and vast variety of designs immediately sparked a number of ideas for how to use them. I hope you'll be similarly inspired!

1. On the wall

The most obvious route is to hang the wall tapestry on - you guessed it - the wall! Double sided or indoor mounting tape is a quick and effective way to get them up, and it won't damage your paint job. If you prefer to use nails, you could hang the tapestry using bulldog clips at the top corners. This is it a great way to add color, warmth, and a focal point to a minimal room. Also, tapestries make a great, affordable alternative to a custom-framed large scale print or to wallpaper, which you would literally be stuck with for a long time.

2. As a tablecloth

Because the tapestries are machine washable, they make amazing tablecloths! Why not wake up by adding bold graphics to your morning coffee, or impress your friends at brunch?

3. As a bedspread

As I unfolded the largest tapestry, I realized just how big it was - enough to cover a queen-sized bed! It's also surprisingly soft against the skin, so it makes a lovely bedspread. I put it over my duvet as a light, decorative cover. The cloud tapestry seems especially tailor-made for encouraging slumber.

4. As a picnic blanket

Now that we're getting into park-hang season, try packing a tapestry in your backpack. No one wants to sit on damp grass, and a bold graphic tapestry is so much more exciting than a boring blanket. Plus, these lightweight tapestries can accommodate all of your best pals!

5. Get creative!

There are so many ways to use these tapestries. For example, if your couch is a stained mess, use one to cover it up (while adding flair!). Also, why not use a tapestry as a backdrop for a wedding ceremony? You could spend hours and hours DIY-ing, or you could simply order a beautiful floral-print tapestry to hang behind you as you say your vows. Hang one up as a photo booth backdrop for other celebrations. You could even become a Society6 designer and create one that is uniquely you. Think beyond the wall!

You could also get clips with curtain rings (from target or amazon) and make them into curtains. (you'll need a curtain rod too)

My wife and I have been doing this for years and its very easy to switch out the tapestries for a completely different look to the room.

--Keep in mind that sun bleaching may occur, but this, in my opinion, adds character.

Great!! Love the bed spread idea! Another idea: I've put mine in a window, as a layer under the curtains. It looks amazing! I've posted it on my instagram if you wanna take a look @jujuwelry

purchased a tapestry from this company and it was garbage. The print was not in focus and oh yes no return address or paperwork. Don't buy from society6!

Sorry to hear Unhappy Customer that you had a bad experience. I haven't checked how my works transfer to tapestries yet...but I sure hope your experience was unique : (

I'm a new artist on here. Loading my work for sale I had wondered whether the quality of what comes out at the other end is any good.

I believe it is in the hands of the artist because Society 6 set the criteria for upload and they can only depend on the artist. The person who bought and was given an blurred representation, I'm sorry you received something that didn't represent what you thought it would. Maybe you might like to contact the artist so this mistake doesn't happen again?

I actually went back to check my settings to give the clearest resolution because of this post!

My workgroup moved into an old building, with a very 'institutional' feel; large blank walls, confusing habitrail corridors. No budget for anything. I figured large wall hangings would be our only hope, and found this site. I waited for sales, and ordered one to check the quality, which was excellent. We now have 6 of these, and the difference in the ambience is amazing. We used thumb tacs to hang them, and they are so smooth they almost look painted on. The hallways are very narrow, so not having protruding frames is a great benefit, especially since we wheel equipment carts around. Visitors have some kind of markings to navigate to and from the conference room, and the added color lifts all of our spirits.

Can we stop with the devaluation of the hard-won skills that define arts & crafts? These are not tapestries, they are photographic images mechanically printed on synthetic sheets.

Dictionary, tapestry: “a heavy textile with a woven design; used for curtains and upholstery” “a wall hanging of heavy handwoven fabric often with pictorial designs”

Unhappycustomer the sharpness of the print quality depends on the artists uploading large enough images - it's not S6's fault if the image isn't up to scratch, they strongly discourage artists from upscaling low res images but they can't check every one of the millions of files uploaded.
I'm sure if you contact their customer support online rather than mailing a return they will sort it out. Most of these type of stores (with user-submitted designs) work this way these days.
