Introducing Leggings to Society6!

After a year's worth of development, we're pretty jacked up to finally share our newest product arrival with you - Leggings!

Using the highest quality anti-microbial poly-spandex material, these new leggings wick moisture and remain breathable, making them ideal in comfort and function for any lifestyle, be it rigorous or sloth-like. The proprietary high-waisted cut and sew construction provides an unprecedented quality in fit and versatility that you won't find in any other artist-driven community.

While part of the year long development process was dedicated to sourcing, designing and crafting the highest quality leggings possible, another healthy chunk was spent establishing a new production process that allows us to actually make them affordable for our customers. Big shout out to the product design team that we aged 10 years in the hustle.

You can see all the early popular designs here.

Or what our team team plucked out as Leggings we're digging on.

As there is nothing in the Society6 product line-up that comes close to dimension or style, and because there is so much opportunity to customize each panel of the leggings (e.g. right or left leg, front or back waistband), Leggings could not be automatically made available in your Shop.

As such, we've made a PSD Template available to help streamline file preparation. Your final file will need to be 9000px (height) X 7500px (width).

You'll notice designs are added seam to seam, though there will be some cropping of the file based on size. The high-waistband can be designed completely independent of the rest of the garment, for maximum creative control - ex: Bianca Green's Overdose Leggings below.

Introducing Leggings to Society6!

Introducing Leggings to Society6!

We encourage everyone to give uploading new Leggings a shot at your earliest convenience, as we'll be notifying the rest of the world in the coming days of their arrival. You can add a pair to your existing designs by clicking "ADD T-SHIRTS & MORE" at the top of any post, or upload new designs through the standard Post process.

Feel free to ask questions or leave comments below, otherwise enjoy the new leggings and thanks for your continued support!

WOW!!! Very cool and I LOVE the waistband can be a separate design - that's unique!! Thanks for adding these!! Is the PolySpandex the smooth, low shine non-pilling variety?

Patricia Shea Designs commented on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 2:39pm
So the file should be uploaded as per the template shapes on the right above - not a full field of design? Thanks
Cupcake Crystal commented on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 2:56pm
Would these make good workout leggings?
Bianca Green commented on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 3:03pm
Patricia,
you will have to upload just like the right picture - the cut out of the parts as they will be produced, png, no background, no outlines. You'll see it once you open the template. Have fun creating your files :)

Sushibird commented on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 3:36pm
Lovely! I can't wait to add new products. How long does it usually take for the artwork to render after you have uploaded a design? I uploaded one to try, but it seems to be stuck saying "rendering artwork" for the past 15 - 20 min. The file seems to have been uploaded ok though, but it is hard to tell without the artwork.

Love the idea!
The sizes seem to run a kinda small tho, a real shame.
Obvious Warrior commented on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 4:31pm
Please don't get me wrong but why is the template so huge if the actual leggings are only 6382x6220px?? I kind of have a problem with this because I'm already wasting 24 hours plus rendering my works. If I have to render at 10000x10000px I'll have to get one of those $4000 workstations.

Question on the template ... are we uploading a file that is white with only the pattern/image showing through (with the "mask" layer showing?) Or are we uploading a file that is nothing but image/pattern (with NO mask layer or guide layer showing)? And/or does the entire space of the template file need to be filled with image/pattern? Help on the file format please ...

The template is helpful, but the 7500 x 9000 size seems like overkill. My present version of Paint Shop Pro crashes and burns trying to produce that size.

I was able to upload one design and they look AWESOME as leggings! I was trying to upload more but the link is no longer working from any browser, only to upload leggings. I can upload anything else. Perhaps all the artists are just as excited as I am and it is breaking the link (?) Just passing along in hopes that it will be fixed soon:)
Julie Viens commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 8:11am
OK, so I used the template and uploaded my artwork, but it says that the image is still rendering. Is there a backlog due to the number of uploads? Just curious as I followed the instructions, but am not seeing any image,

Riaora Creations commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 8:25am
I'm attempting to upload these, but all I get is a "rendering art" message. Any ideas as of what I'm doing wrong?
anitaa commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 8:25am
What does rendering artwork means ? ( I 'm French)
Lagoonartastic commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 8:57am

Please, A REAR VIEW!! please, please, please!

I think it may be interesting and necessary to see the design from behind.
Thanks!!
Domesticate commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 9:16am
Yes, mine also says "rendering artwork" though I just filled the whole field with pattern and turned off the guides and such. Will it not show correctly if I didn't create it exactly as the one shown, or do I need to wait on the site to "render"? Thanks!
Kate Moore commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 9:27am
I just ordered a pair with one of my designs and I'm super excited! If they come out looking good I'll write up a tutorial on how to set up the files, since it was a little tricky (I wasn't sure if art should be warped to fit the waistband template, etc.) Thanks s6! I had planned to print this pattern on fabric and make my own, but this actually ended up being cheaper (plus less sewing for my lazy self)!
Kate Moore commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 9:28am
Also guys, "rendering artwork" just means the site is trying to make that magic image of your pattern on the photo of the person. For me it took about 15 minutes to show the actual image :)
LilaVert commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 9:30am
Anitta, "rendering artwork" ça veut dire que ton design est entrain d'être configuré par le logiciel afin de faire la preview du legging dans ta boutique.

For ADMIN society, is it possible in future getting the BACK preview of the legging, I thing its very cool for special design if the backside 's different the front ??! Thanks !!
mentalembellisher commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 9:33am

As a fat girl addicted to leggings, I'm sorry to see that you don't offer plus sizes. I'd also like to know what the actual fiber percentage breakdown is of the fabric.
Catspaws commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:04am
i am obviously incredibly stupid but i need simple instructuions on how to use this file sorry
Rory Wood commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:11am
Great to hear all the feedback on the new leggings. Our engineers are investigating the rendering delays. Typically this process shouldn't take more than 10-15 seconds. Looking forward to report back with updates.

@catspaws - Really the template is just a guideline for how the leggings will be cut and sewn. Many artists are simply uploading a solid block (9000x7500) of art. The simple way to think about it - whatever the waistband or legs template exposes on the block, is what will be produced on the leggings.
Nina May Designs commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:22am
Yes! Thank you so much S6 for adding Leggings to the mix. Double thanks for the awesome easy Template. :-)
aapshop commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:56am
I'm too old and too stupid to use the guideline, tried to upload an entire file a while back, I'll wait and see what happens. :-)
aapshop commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:58am

David Zydd commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:58am
Good news!

But I've never used PhotoShop (and I never want to use it...), so some of my images don't look too good on leggings.
GoldenCircleDesigns commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 11:24am
These look fantastic. My only concern is that they only go up to a size XL - any chance of adding larger sizes?
GoldenCircleDesigns commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 11:26am
(Honestly, the market for really cool plus size leggings is like... HUGE!!!) Bigger sizes. PLEASE.
Alice Gosling commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 12:15pm
Nearly 30 uploaded now and they do look super cool. Awesome addition :)
PS - for those talking of 'rendering image' problems, as long as you get to the upload successful stage, the image will eventually follow, it is just taking a long, long time, but it does appear

@ Rory Wood . . "Really the template is just a guideline for how the leggings will be cut and sewn. Many artists are simply uploading a solid block (9000x7500) of art. The simple way to think about it - whatever the waistband or legs template exposes on the block, is what will be produced on the leggings." . thank you for clarifying something I was about to ask . . that is good to know after working on this for quite some time this morning trying to customize the waistband . I believe initially it will be good to simply upload the image size cropped to fulfill the size requirement to make them available in my store and then perhaps experiment more with the design later . . it really is a bit complex . . haven't figured out how to "erase" or not include the black s6 banner portion from the bottom of the template . . there is a learning curve on this template design . .
Sharon Mau commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 4:41pm
. question . . do you flatten the file and save as png . and not worry about the black lower s6 banner on the template . . need more comprehensive instructions for customization please . .
Rory Wood commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 4:42pm
All - the issues experienced earlier in the day, in which rendering the artwork was taking extended periods of time should be resolved. Your collective and overwhelming enthusiasm for the product caused the rendering system to backup - a sour experience caused by a positive response!

We've made the necessary updates to ensure that can't happen again and truly appreciate your patience while those adjustments were made. But please let us know if you encounter any other issues with this release as the team is standing by to support you.
Sierra Neale commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 4:49pm

Sharon Mau commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 4:55pm
. please answer Rory . . the first one I've tried without flattening the file and saved as a png is 25.8 MB . that is such a huge file !

Sharon Mau commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 6:34pm
. @ Rory . .
. once I've discovered how to use the template it really is quite fun customizing the design . . it's like actually trimming fabric to fit the guidelines . . I've made two so far . . I really do need to know however . . do I flatten the png file before uploading? . . because with these two I did not . . and the png files are so large it is unreal . . . the Hawaiian Coconut Palm leggings file is :: 43.4 MB ::
Rory Wood commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 6:59pm
@Sharon - The upload process should support files at that size as the system was built to accommodate very large images. There should be no issue with the site receiving them so long as your personal machine can process them. Hope that answers your question!
Gwendalyn Abrams commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 6:59pm
The upload is still not working :(
Sharon Mau commented on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 7:04pm
✿ . . ★ . . :: you are so kind . . thank you Rory . . I'm wondering however if I can flatten the file before uploading to save space on my external hard drive . the png files are so large . Blue Crush that I just created is 42.3 MB . . which is huge . So what I need to know is if I flatten the png before uploading will it reduce the size of my file to save space on my drive and still work for you :: . . ★ . . ☆ ✿ ☆ ✿ . . ★ . . ✤ •*`*•.¸¸.•*`*•.¸¸✽ ❥

GoAti commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 6:14am
@ Rory Wood I agree with @emmie-lou a Illustrator template would be nice, I am using the photoshop way it only works if you upload in jpeg mode it will not allow me to upload a png. I have the latest version of photoshop, on a new mac air, tried in both Safari and Chrome, not sure if that helps. As for "rendering artwork" is that just sheer amount processing volume due to everyone trying to upload their Leggings?
GoAti commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 6:42am
anyone have just a vector of the template?
Usagi Por Moi commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 8:28am
How are these produced, are they printed, pattern and ground? Or is the ground dyed and then pattern printed? I just want to know to make sure it doesn't look weird when the fabric stretches
Louisa Catharine Art And Patte… commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 9:16am

I am super excited about the leggings addition! Can't wait to rock them myself. The template was a little more challenging but definitely not complaining because everything else is so easy to design and upload. And I think I figured it out so we'll see once I order. Thank you!
Teo Hoble commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 10:40am
Okay, I have a question. So the design looks nice and straight in photoshop and in my PNG, but when rendered on the model on the site, the upper part looks very crooked and weird. Very visible on this design: http://society6.com/product/sailor-mo...ngs#56=417 where the "panty" shape is turned by the renderer into this weird zig-zaggy image. My first question is: is this really how the pants turn out in real life, or is it just the renderer? And my second question is: can S6 try and fix this? Because of that, designs that I think would be cool look awful on the site and of course nobody will want to buy something that seems badly designed.
Victoria Herrera commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 10:46am

Teo Hoble commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 10:47am

Louisa Catharine Art And Patte… commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 11:33am
For those of you who had Photoshop issues with the large size like I did, first resize to max allowed in imagesplitter and then upload into photoshop, resize up to 9000px. Had no problems with freezing then! Cannot wait to order my leggings, love how everyone's designs are looking :)

I'm actually excited about these. I hope It isn't too hard to get the grip of it. Evenso I love leggings so this made me happy.
tjustleft commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 1:40pm
I messed up and uploaded the image I made for leggings as the print. After the print was posted I uploaded it again for the leggings then made another for pillows. The leggings didn't look good so I deleted it. Now the print and pillow are gone too. I wanted to delete them as well so I could start fresh. Does deleting one product in a set delete them all or did it just glitch. Starting over is no problem but I want to make sure the original is truly gone so I don't wind up with a duplicate.
Teo Hoble commented on Thursday, April 30, 2015 2:45pm
Okay I added another design that has an upper "panty" part... and the same problem with the zig-zagging render. This is how it looks on the S6 page: http://society6.com/product/superhero...ngs#56=417 with the unnatural "folds" in the upper part... And here is how it should look: https://40.media.tumblr.com/85451ef5a...3_1280.jpg And in case it helps make the issue a bit clearer, here is the design I made for these leggings: https://40.media.tumblr.com/8cae1f18e...2_1280.png

@Rory, I tried uploading my first legging template as a png, it just refused to upload, nothing, nada. I changed it to a jpg, it uploaded but still many hours later, no image. So I have no clue what it looks like, to move forward. It seems the glitches have not been resolved even though I see others leggings. Help!

@ Rory - Not tried to upload today but last night I tried to 'pin' some of my leggings with the side view. When I selected the side view to promote it, many of them still showed the rendering logo, even though the small thumbnail showed the product. Really want to promote theses but is very difficult when the images are not stable.

I too Rory am still waiting for my image to show, after uploading last night. I can't add more until I see how my template worked out. Do I need to re upload, or are you working on the issue? Thanks.
Rory Wood commented on Friday, May 1, 2015 11:51am
All, we saw and have already patched a fix into this most recent rendering issue! New renders should function as expected and the uploads that were originally impacted are already processing quickly, and should finish catching up within the hour.

Truly appreciate all your support and feedback through this rollout. We're excited to share the new Leggings with our customers at large in the coming days and are pretty floored by the enthusiasm you guys are bringing to the table.

I've been binge uploading most of the day to get leggings up for the sale but all of them just say "rendering artwork" for hours. For all of them I just uploaded a solid block of designs as 7500x9000 JPGs and the only pair I can see model previews of is a pair I uploaded yesterday the exact same way...

Am I the only one not seeing model previews of my leggings? What am I doing wrong lol.

I'm thrilled that I can now see all of my leggings IF I click on the "Leggings" category but one link isn't working properly. When I click on the picture for "Field of Flowers Zen Doodle" leggings, (when I'm in the leggings category), the link takes me to the "Art Print". And when I'm in the "Field of Flowers Zen Doodle" area where everything is sold, and scroll over to see what is also available, I see the leggings but again if I click on the picture, it takes me to "Art Print". I want to purchase these but the link never takes me to the leggings.

Wendy, I have exactly the same issue on all social networks, every time I want to share, it shows rendering. I am not uploading anymore although I have designed them until it is sorted. Odd though as I see many friends I have met through here's legging showing up perfectly on the same networks. Hope all get sorted as it would be great to sell some while the promotion is on Wendy :)

Since yesterday I replaced all my solid block jpgs with pngs exactly like the post shows and the previews are showing up faster. When I click on the side view or to zoom in it still says rendering, but at least I can see how they look!

So maybe if anyone is having the same problem (taking forever to see the preview on the product page) try that?

So you have to use the templet in photoshop? not illustrator thats where I do all my designing? and then use something like eraser to trim all around the different template areas. All the templets that I have worked with from other companies, each area could be filled with a swatch design I made with my art. I am rather new at this and I do not see any instructions on how to use the templet. I guess that is only meant for professionals in the business to use because they would understand how to use it. I tried to figure it out but don't get it. it seems very labor intensive to use as best I can understand it. so I just uploaded the simple way. But I wish I understood it Because I could make much better Leggings designs. But i do like the new item.
Side bar while i'm here Also a simple mans shoulder bag would be a cool item to sell with designs. Thanks for listening
MG-Studio commented on Monday, May 4, 2015 8:59am
For anyone having trouble designing the leggings in Photoshop, I hope this makes it easier for you:

1. Open the design you want to work with and add it to the template by dragging and dropping. To be more organized, in the Layers panel, drag your design and place it in the "ARTWORK" group.

2. To make the process easier and more neat; in the layers panel click on the small square next to the "MASK" group layer to make it visible. This will help you focus on only the design on the pants themselves.

3. In order to erase the unwanted design that might overlap or leak outside the pants guide; in the MASK group, select the mask layer and click inside the pants with the Magic Wand Tool, then go to Select and then Inverse. Then click on your design and click on "Delete" on your keyboard. This will delete anything outside the pants guide, so that it's only on the part you want it to be.

4. Once you are happy where everything is, make sure to go to your Layers panel and click on the small eye icon for "GUIDES" and "KEY" in order to make them invisible. The "ARTWORK" group needs to be visible and if you'd like you can also leave the "MASK" visible as well.

5. Save your design as jpg and upload to Society6.

Rory Wood commented on Monday, May 4, 2015 5:55pm
Really strange to receive new reports of rendering issues, as we're not seeing anything major on this side. That said, the rendering process is a serious effort and there are a few optimizations we still want to make as to how that experience plays out on your end.

Good rule of thumb, give a new upload a good 30-60 seconds to render. Visit the product page directly, and refresh just to ensure it's not an old version of the page you're visiting. The thumbnails should be fully rendered, but if not, give it a little more time and refresh the top level product page again - not the alternate product previews themselves.

Please keep us posted if that doesn't help though, as engineers are actively listening and watching for new reports. Lots of enhancements coming, but we're already seeing some amazing results from customers scooping Leggings up!
rachitect commented on Monday, May 4, 2015 7:50pm
Rendering time is improving, and I'm excited to see that you've added the back!

Unfortunately, it looks like the back preview is taking the front panel and mirror-reversing it on the back panel (instead of showing the back panel)

Hey Rory, I'm still having issues seeing the alternate views of the leggings on the product page. I see all the images there, but when I go to click on them, I get the 'rendering image' disclaimer. Refreshing doesn't work.

The waistband is giving me some issues, too. I've adjusted one of my designs several times to get the waistband to not cut off the design. Looks fine in photoshop, and then is severely cut off in the render. It looks like a good inch is folded under in the example photo in the post up top, so would it be a safe assumption to leave about an inch from the top and bottom to avoid getting the design cut off by a seam?
Darlene Seale commented on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 1:18pm
Rendering image has been going on for quite a long time. I've given up and must move on to something else. I concur that plus sizes should be offered if possible. But thanks for the step by step guide for how to actually place the art work on the template. With a few variations for CS4 it worked for me. I appreciate the step by step for those of us who aren't experts yet with photoshop, which takes a lifetime. Great new product S6! Can't wait to see what's next.

It has been days since I uploaded my leggings and while you fixed some of my listings, there is still one of the links that is not working. When I click "Leggings" under my listings they all show up but when I click on the one titled "Field of Flowers Zen Doodle" the link takes me to the "Art Prints". Even if I click on the leggings under "Also available as" it still directs me to the "Art Print" ... Also I guess it was nice to add a back view but those links don't seem to work either. I'm surprised that you added an additional feature like the backside photos before fixing other issues. Please fix these issue so I can post on my other social media venues that I now am selling Leggings. I hesitate posting that I offer these when all of them cannot be viewed. Thanks

Rory Wood commented on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 7:23pm
@GoAti & Bianca - I'm not able to reproduce the issue. Is it on a specific design or across the entire portfolio?

@Darlene, Morgan - I'm seeing all of your designs currently available rendered, so perhaps it is a browser cache issue? Have you tried refreshing your local cache or viewing from a different browser you don't typically access Society6 from?

@Kathy - I'm not experiencing that same issues. All your products are rendering for me and clicking through to the expected Leggings product page. Can you see my answer above as it may just be a browser caching issue you're experiencing.

@rachitect & Wendy - Very peculiar. Going to discuss with the engineers!

The leggings appear distorted around the crotch area. @TeoHoble and @YourBottomHalf also mentioned this problem. It's a shame because they look weird! And I'm sure people imagine they will print like that. If you look at the images of Bianca's at the top of this post the same thing happens. As for lining up patterns, it depends on the size as to where the leggings are cut so I don't think there's a sure-fire way of doing it.

@Rory I love the leggings and have been uploading designs with no issues until yesterday. I currently have about nine legging designs that I uploaded last night that are still not showing an image, just the name of the product and white space beneath in my leggings feed .

When I open the product and view the leggings design the side and back views are there as thumbnails, but not the full front on image. The front on rendered image appears when I go back into the add T-shirts and more menu though which confirms that the file has been uploaded.

Any ideas what is going on?

I have many pairs now and adore them. I finally decided the results of simply using the art in the stated black and seeing how they render. On occasion they do not work well with a piece of art but overall the results have been fun !
