The Traveling Classroom

As evolving Artists and Teachers, we immerse ourselves completely in the magical worlds of both Education & Art...our fingers constantly wet with moments of inspiration, the creative process and transmission to a diverse audience. This past July, we created The Traveling Classroom. This classroom required ordinary, traditional school equipment. Yet, it was the non- ordinary, outside of the box, creative space that had the ability to transcend a regular educational experience and turn it into a work of art. Equipped with student desks, a teacher's desk, and a chalkboard all packed up into our truck, we spent three days traveling around the state of Wisconsin. We displayed and opened our classroom exhibit to the public in various locations. Our goal of showcasing and documenting unconventional scholastic settings was to capture artistic expressions and generate a free-thinking public forum about education as a whole. It seems ironic that the very place that every student seems to want to run free from incites such nostalgia to the public. People gravitated to the classroom space and there they were free to reflect upon their own academic experiences. Through documenting the creative process of The Traveling Classroom, we captured the significant moments of the very place that shapes the root of our society as a whole. Each image encourages the viewers to enter the composition of the space in order to explore, reflect, and reminisce about their own academic experience of the classrooms of their past.
