We Rebuilt Artist Studio Around the Way Artists Work.
Uploading a design used to mean thinking product by product, one crop at a time, and most artists ended up either doing the same work twelve times over or leaving half their options untouched. Artist Studio now works the other way around. You bring the artwork, and one upload session opens it across everything we print, from art prints and tapestries to iPhone cases and duvet sets. It goes live Thursday, August 6.
One session covers every product
A single design file gets you started. Add up to 11 files across the different aspect ratios and orientations and every product we print becomes available to you, without going back in a second time.
Three things worth knowing before you upload:
-
Each product lives in one aspect ratio, so an art print can be 4:5 or 5:4 but not both. Pick the crop that serves the work.
-
The Products tab groups everything by aspect ratio and orientation, which makes it easy to see which of your files are pulling the most weight.
-
If a product needs a ratio you have not uploaded, Artist Studio tells you which file is missing rather than quietly leaving that product off.
A faster way through titles and tags
Suggestions now sit under the title, description and tag fields. They are there to save you the naming and tagging time, and to offer language that tends to land with shoppers browsing a category. Every suggestion works the same way:
-
Take it as written and move on.
-
Hit regenerate for a different set.
-
Ignore it and write your own.
Nothing gets applied until you pick it, so the voice on your page stays yours.
Every design still needs a title, description, art medium, primary color and subject before it goes for approval, and those five fields are what make a piece findable once it is live. For Example, say you upload a painted dusty desert scene. Tag the medium as painting, the color as rust and the subject as landscape, then give it a title someone would recognize (“Vintage Western Landscape Painted Art Print). With those tags, that piece now turns up for shoppers:
-
Who filter on wall art by color and/or filter by art medium
-
It will also show up for anyone who searches "vintage western landscape print"
Give it a vague title, the wrong subject or a color that is not really in the artwork, and the only people likely to find it are the ones already searching for your name.
The numbers are visible before you publish
The Pricing tab lists every product your design is enabled on, with the retail price, the markup percentage and your earning amount side by side, so there is no guessing at what a sale is worth to you.
Once your designs are live, Earnings splits in two. Sales covers activity from the last 60 days. Payouts shows your history organized by payout month, which turns checking a month against your own records into a five-minute job.
Drafts stay editable until you submit
Designs in Draft status are fully editable. Change the title, swap the tags, enable a different mix of products, whatever the work needs. Submitting for approval locks both the details and the product selections, so give it one last read before it goes.
What it means to sell here
If you have not listed work with us before, the shape of it is straightforward. It starts with an application that someone on our team reviews personally, and once you are approved, every design you upload gets the same care before it goes live. Supporting independent artists is important to us and that is what keeps the work here original. Your name stays on the piece wherever that piece ends up.
We print on demand, so nothing is made until someone orders it, which means you are not carrying inventory or working toward a minimum, and a design you uploaded two years ago can stay up without costing you a thing.
From there a single design can go a long way. It might end up as a framed print, a shower curtain or a duvet cover. Everything you upload lives on your artist page, so someone who falls for one piece can look through the rest of your work in one place. Your work is also visible to the interior designers and stylists sourcing through our Trade Program, which means professionals choosing art for client spaces are seeing it too.
If you have finished pieces sitting in a folder that never made it past the old upload screen, this is the version built for them, and you can start with a single file at Artist Studio whenever you are ready.
Frequently Asked Questions
I had an account on the old Artist Studio. Can I sign in with my existing password? Your email address is the same one you have always used, but you will need to reset your password the first time you sign in to the new Artist Studio. Use the reset link on the sign-in page, and if anything looks off once you are in, our artist support team is here to help you - contact us here.
How do I start selling my art on Society6? It starts with an artist application, which someone on our team reads personally. Once you are approved, open Artist Studio and select Upload New Design, give the work a title and add at least one design file, then choose the products you want enabled, accept the terms and send the design off for review.
How many designs do I need to upload to cover every Society6 product? Up to 11 files across the different aspect ratios and orientations will cover everything we print. One file is enough to get started, and you can add the rest whenever you want to open up more products.
Can I edit a design after I submit it for approval? Designs in Draft status can be edited freely. Once a design moves to Pending, Approved, Declined or Removed, both the details and the product selections become view-only.
Do I have to use the suggested titles, descriptions and tags? No. Suggestions appear under each field as a starting point. Regenerate them for a different set, or write your own instead. Title, description, art medium, primary color and subject all have to be applied by you before submission.
Where do I see how much a design earns on Society6? The Pricing tab shows retail price, markup percentage and your earning amount for every enabled product. The Earnings tab covers actual sales from the last 60 days plus historical payouts organized by month.
Why can an art print only use one aspect ratio? Each product is set up for a single crop, so an art print runs at 4:5 or 5:4 rather than both. Uploading files at several ratios lets you choose the crop that suits the work for each product.
