"The things that originally pushed me to pursue art are the very same things that continue to inspire me creatively. For me, that's Ghibli movies! I love settling in for a night watching a Ghibli movie, to quote one of my favorite ones “Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don't even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you'll be flying again." (Kiki’s Delivery Service) Other things include small intimate moments with loved ones. Such as: a glance back from a friend to make sure you're following close, the cheers of everyones drinks before a fun night, the laugh of an inside joke, the hug during a hello and a goodbye, etc. I love how my community inspires me and I hope I inspire them as well!"
Born and raised in NYC, Nessa Nguyễn is a Vietnamese-American illustrator and designer. Nessa’s work focuses on their Vietnamese upbringing and how we can bond cross-culturally over food, cheeky designs, intergenerational healing, and self-awareness. By staying true to their personal journey growing up in an immigrant household, Nessa’s relatable storytelling inspires us to be real with ourselves and each other. In their spare time, they can be found scouring Chinatown for the tastiest dumpling deals.
Featured Artist: Chetan Singh Kunwar
"Chetan’s illustrations revolve around the theme of “home” in small ephemeral moments. Being away from family has only made that feeling grow stronger for him; with his illustrations, he merges those tender thoughts into something more permanent. If you gaze through his work, you’ll find cozy moments that may remind you of a corner from your house."
Born in New Delhi, India, Chetan Singh Kunwar is a visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. His work explores the connection of digital versus tactile, expressed in a range of styles from digital illustrations to hand-tufted rugs and everything in between. Chetan graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a M.A. in Graphic Design and Visual Experiences. No matter the medium, he aims to make art that captures individual moments in his life which can evoke personal memories in each viewer through their interpretation.
