I curate Sisterhood: A Bond Through Art in honor of my Grandma Ruth, a seamstress, needleworker, and quilter, and her sister, Mary, an artist, and art educator who became the first full-time African American faculty member at Penn State University. As I reflected upon the lives of these African-American artists, I sensed a common theme – works that were expressions of their childhood experiences – being home and secure, centered and loved, on their grandparent’s farm – the place where they were able to cultivate their skills and bring their creativity to a higher level.

I am sharing my love of their artwork by creating useful, everyday items that feature their designs.
