It’s designer-level curation, simplified for everyday decorators who want their walls to tell their story.

How to Build and Hang a Gallery Wall

1. Gather and Plan
Pick your wall & anchor point: Once you have all your art pieces, pick where you want to hang them. This is usually above a sofa, console, or bed. Leave about 6–8" of space between furniture and the lowest frame.

2. Lay Out the Arrangement

  • On the floor: Arrange the pieces on the ground first, so you can see the overall balance.
  • Work around a center piece: Start with the largest or most eye-catching artwork, then build out around it.
  • Spacing: Leave about 2–3" between frames.
  • Symmetry vs. organic: Decide if you want a neat grid or a more freeform gallery.

3. Mock It Up

  • Paper templates: Cut kraft paper or wrapping paper to match each frame, tape them to the wall with painter’s tape, and adjust until you’re happy.
  • Step back often: Check from across the room to make sure the arrangement feels balanced.

4. Hang the Frames

  • Mark hanging points: Once you’re happy with the paper layout, measure and mark where the hooks/nails should go.
  • Use the right hardware: Nails or picture hooks for light frames; wall anchors or screws for heavier ones.
  • Level each piece: Use a small level or a phone app to keep everything straight.

5. Admire!

  • Mix textures: Add mirrors or 3D elements for variety.
  • Keep it flexible: Don’t be afraid to swap things out over time - it doesn’t have to be permanent.
