Description
A dense catalog of reptiles and amphibians fills this hand-colored engraving, arranged in three horizontal registers from snakes and lizards at top to crocodilians in the middle and turtles below. Ochre, sage green, and cream tones dominate the naturalistic palette, rendered with fine cross-hatching and delicate linework characteristic of 19th-century scientific illustration. At home in a study, naturalist's office, or collector's curiosity cabinet. Made to order by hand at our own Denver facility, it arrives as nine wood panels, each a half-inch thick with a keyhole on the back so it hangs easily. The natural grain shows through the artwork, so no two come out exactly alike.
