Description
A hand-colored cartographic rendering of South Carolina from 1883 displays the state's geological formations in rich jewel tones of crimson, ochre, sage green, and lavender, with county lines and topographic features meticulously delineated across a cream ground. The composition balances scientific precision with decorative artistry, featuring an ornamental legend on the left margin and directional indicators on the right, creating a layered portrait of the land as understood through nineteenth-century geological study. At home in a study, library, or anywhere history and geography spark conversation. Made to order by hand at our own Denver facility, it arrives as nine wood panels, each a half-inch thick with a keyhole on the back so it hangs easily. The natural grain shows through the artwork, so no two come out exactly alike.
